When is a machine intelligent?
When does it understand?
What does creativity mean.
It has not been possible to formalize even a naive metaphysics well
enough to build a machine based on it.

a child accepts names without assigning a referent confident that
they name something. Having a definite referent in mind is an
advanced state of mind as is the idea that something named might
not have a referent. To a child, a fictitious flying horse is
rather like a far away flying horse.
It seems to be possible to believ a proposition without knowing
precisely what it means. In fact, no-one knows precisely what
any ordinary empirical proposition such proposition("Palo Alto is
in California") means. It seems best to regard statements of belief
as statements in an approximate theory - confident that the theory
will break down if inspected too closely.
